A message from our Head of Nursing
Since its founding in 1929, Tokyo Adventist Hospital has held to a mission of medical service rooted in the love of Christ, working to provide the best possible care for the healing of mind and body, as a hospital of this community. Guided by our philosophy, to make man whole through Christ's love, serving each person, our Nursing Department aims to provide high-quality care, given wholeheartedly, with attention to helping each patient feel genuinely cared for.
In support of a workplace where nurses can thrive, we place value on reflection, time set aside to talk through our own nursing experience. In these sessions, sharing what we've done in practice and what matters most to us in nursing, with colleagues and more experienced staff, opens up new insight and a shared sense of what nursing can mean. Nurses are a key part of team-based care, closest to the patient day to day. We coordinate across many roles in the hospital toward patient-centred team care, and hope every nurse here can take pride and satisfaction in their work, providing care that earns our patients' trust.

Our nursing structure
Roughly 220 nurses and 50 nursing assistants and clerks across the hospital, Health Checkup Centre, outpatient building, and home-visit nursing. Our general wards maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 to 7 under the acute-care classification, with a nursing assistant or clerk assigned to each ward. Wards work a two-shift or modified two-shift system, with a primary-nurse model giving each patient a consistent point of contact.

Nursing committees
Active committee work supports quality improvement, safety management, and better working practice, covering in-hospital education, workflow improvement, documentation, nursing research, ethics case review, maternal and child care promotion, risk management, pressure-injury prevention, admission and discharge planning, infection-prevention link nurses, clinical placement support, and a senior nurses' council, among others.
