We treat smoking cessation using nicotine patches and other aids, available both as insured treatment and, for patients who do not qualify for insurance coverage, as private-pay treatment.
Insured treatment
Insurance coverage for smoking cessation treatment has been available in Japan since April 2006, subject to the following conditions:
- You want to quit smoking right away.
- Your Brinkman Index (cigarettes per day multiplied by years smoked) is 200 or above if you are 35 or older; under 35 there is no minimum.
- You are able to attend five visits: at the start, then 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after your quit date.
- Our physician has diagnosed nicotine dependence (assessed by questionnaire at your first visit).
Heated tobacco product users are also eligible.
