Kohitsuji House cares for children who are too unwell to attend nursery or kindergarten but are well enough to be looked after outside hospital, supporting working parents.
Eligibility & registration
Advance registration with Suginami City is required before your first use; details and the registration form are on the Suginami City website. From April 2026, bookings are made through the Teote sick-childcare booking service, which requires the registration number issued by the city.
Who can use this service
- Suginami residents: children aged 5 months to pre-school age, enrolled in a nursery, kindergarten, or similar
- Non-residents: children aged 5 months to pre-school age enrolled in a Suginami nursery or kindergarten
- A parent or guardian must be working or otherwise unable to provide care that day.

Conditions we can care for
Common cold and cold-like illness, bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma, middle-ear infection, infectious gastroenteritis, streptococcal infection, roseola, whooping cough, herpangina, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, influenza, and minor injuries such as a fracture, among others.
We cannot accept children with measles, chickenpox, mumps, rubella, pharyngoconjunctival fever, epidemic keratoconjunctivitis, or COVID-19. Some underlying conditions may also affect whether we can accept your child; please ask.

Payment is due on the morning of your child's stay. Capacity is up to 6 children per day, though this can be lower depending on illness type or staffing.

- Register with Suginami City in advance.
- Register with the Teote app (create an account, register the facility, then submit your booking request; steps 1 and 2 are only needed the first time).
- Book through Teote (bookings open from 12:00 the day before).
Monday bookings open Friday at 12:00. If the day before your preferred date is a closed day, bookings open at 12:00 on the last open day before that.
Same-day booking may be possible depending on availability; please call between 8:45 and 9:15 after submitting a request through Teote. Walk-ins without a booking cannot be accepted.
Using the service on consecutive days requires a new booking each day (the day before or the morning of), and there is a limit on how many consecutive days are available for the same illness. Once daily capacity is reached, further bookings go on a waiting list.
On the day
Please bring your child to the outpatient building, in front of the sick childcare room, between 8:00 and your designated time. Our paediatrician will examine your child to confirm we are able to care for them that day; this may include some testing, so please allow some time.
If you will be late for your drop-off time, please call us. If your booking time changes, please let us know by phone. If you have not arrived or called within 30 minutes of your booked time, this is treated as a no-show; repeated no-shows may result in the service being declined in future.
Cancelling a booking
Please cancel through Teote by 7:30am on the day.
A typical day
From around 8:00: check-in and examination, with children brought into the care room once seen. Care and observation are adapted to each child's age and symptoms, with regular temperature checks and fluids offered through the day.
