Clinical Laboratory

Our Clinical Laboratory is made up of four sections: the blood-draw room, sample testing, physiological testing, and pathology testing.

We handle a wide range of tests requested by our clinical departments, aiming for prompt, accurate results across the board, and responsive to clinical need, in support of accurate diagnosis and efficient treatment. Our laboratory technicians are on call 24 hours, so urgent testing overnight or on a public holiday is also handled promptly. The in-hospital blood-draw room is also run by our laboratory, with blood draws for outpatients and inpatients carried out under our technicians' safety oversight. We also handle blood draws and testing at the Health Checkup Centre, using the same staff as the hospital.

Our approach

Speed and accuracy together

Deciding on the right treatment depends on accurate, timely test results. We aim to combine precision and speed across our four sections, working from a guiding principle we call FAST: Fast, Accurate, Safety, Trusted, aiming to be genuinely useful to clinical staff and to leave every patient satisfied with the testing experience.

Standardised reference values

We follow standardised methods and reference ranges so that results are consistent regardless of which institution performs the test, supporting information-sharing across institutions and more accurate diagnosis.

Sample testing

General testing

Urine and stool testing, which can be collected with little discomfort, are useful screening tools. Urine tests include qualitative checks (protein, glucose, occult blood) and microscopic sediment analysis (cells, bacteria, crystals), useful in diagnosing kidney disease, diabetes, and urological conditions. Stool testing mainly screens for colorectal cancer through an occult blood test. We also test spinal fluid and other body fluids.

Hematology

Red and white blood cell counts, platelet count, haemoglobin, hematocrit, blood smear review, reticulocyte count, bone marrow testing, and coagulation testing, useful in diagnosing anaemia, inflammation, bleeding disorders, and blood conditions, and in tracking treatment response.

Biochemistry and immunology

Blood and urine analysis covering a broad range of markers reflecting overall body function. Immunological testing covers hormone levels (thyroid hormone, insulin), infectious disease markers (hepatitis B, hepatitis C), and tumour markers, alongside standard panels covering protein, enzymes, lipids, kidney function, electrolytes, glucose metabolism, thyroid function, blood gas, infection markers (including CRP and COVID-19 antigen), and common tumour markers (CEA, AFP, CA19-9, PSA).

Transfusion testing

With laboratory technicians on call 24 hours, safe transfusion support is available even in an emergency.

Physiological testing

ECG, pulmonary function, ultrasound, and related functional testing, performed by our laboratory technicians.

Pathology

Microscopic examination of tissue and cell samples to support diagnosis, including cancer diagnosis.
