Every room is private. Rooms on the west side look out onto a green courtyard, with cherry blossoms in bloom each spring, so patients and the people who matter to them can spend time together at an unhurried pace.

Meals
This hospital has served a plant-based diet, including eggs and dairy, since it was founded. It centres on plant-based food with the addition of eggs, dairy, and plant-based meat alternatives, and is designed to be nutritionally rich. Our dietitian asks each patient's preferences and serves a special dinner, called the Hospice Meal, once a week. Meat and fish are not used in our meals. Bringing in outside food is welcome.
Facilities
Mechanical bath
A mechanical bathing system lets patients bathe while lying down, so even patients who find a conventional bath difficult can enjoy a relaxed soak. We aim to preserve each patient's own sense of everyday life and individuality.
Lounge
Our lounge offers a calm space to spend time with family, friends, or volunteers, and hosts occasional piano performances and seasonal events.
Balcony
A balcony offers a place to rest, with a view of the chapel and courtyard and the changing seasons, including the pale yellow of banksia rose in spring.
Chapel
A small chapel within the ward, lit gently through stained glass, creates a calm atmosphere; family weddings have occasionally been held here for patients unable to leave the ward.
Support for the heart
Chaplain

Two chaplains, one male and one female, are available regardless of a patient's own religious background, visiting patient rooms as needed in consultation with physicians and nurses to listen to patients' distress and anxiety. Consultations are also available for patients receiving home care, and for family members.
Volunteers

Volunteer staff help enrich time spent in the ward, adding seasonal decoration to the ward and sometimes selling handmade items that patients use themselves or give as gifts to family. A casual conversation can also be a welcome change of pace during a hospital stay.
Tea time and music

A tea gathering is held in the lounge daily, with tea also brought to patient rooms by volunteers where needed. About twice a month, a piano or harp performance offers a further chance to unwind, for patients and accompanying family alike.
Animal therapy

Once a week, dogs or cats visit the ward as part of an animal therapy programme, bringing comfort at the bedside. Because every room is private, patients may also bring their own pet from home.
To book a visit, please use the form or call us. You can give up to three preferred dates, and choose from multiple time slots for each.
