This ward is for patients with a cancer diagnosis. Does the patient need to have been told their diagnosis before admission?
In principle, we prefer that a patient is aware of their own diagnosis and wishes to be admitted with that understanding. If a patient asks about their condition after admission, we generally answer honestly, with care taken over how much detail is appropriate to the patient's condition at the time.
Can a patient of any religion be admitted?
Yes, any religious background is welcome.
What are the visiting hours and restrictions?
Family may visit at any time, day or night. Visits from children, infants, and pets are all possible, though a visit may sometimes be limited depending on the patient's condition; we appreciate your understanding.
Can a patient go out or stay away overnight?
As a rule, we ask patients to refrain from going out or staying away overnight.
Can a family member stay with the patient?
Depending on the patient's condition, a family member may stay, either with a folding bed in the room or using our family room.
Can food be brought in for the patient?
Yes. Because some foods may not be suitable depending on the patient's condition, please check with the ward nurse before bringing something in.
Is Wi-Fi available?
Yes.
What kind of treatment is provided?
We specialise in relieving distressing symptoms such as pain, discomfort, nausea, and fatigue. Depending on the patient's condition, supportive treatment such as an IV drip may be given, but active treatment aimed at curing the cancer itself, such as surgery or chemotherapy, is not provided here.
Can a patient use alternative or complementary therapies?
As a rule, we ask patients to refrain from these after admission.
Does health insurance cover admission to this ward?
Yes, the same national and other public health insurance schemes apply as for a general ward admission, along with the high-cost medical care programme and meal-cost reductions where applicable.
Can a patient be discharged?
Yes. If a patient's condition stabilises after admission and the patient or family wishes, discharge is possible. Should the patient's condition change again afterward, readmission is also possible.
Is support available for family members?
Yes, our chaplain is available to talk with family members during a patient's stay.
