Dementia prevention course

A news story once reported a person who went missing while wandering due to cognitive decline, and was only reunited with family seven years later. It is a striking reminder that physical frailty and cognitive decline don't always go together.

Since May 2014, our Health Education department has offered a course aimed at keeping the brain's cognitive function active, through talks on healthy ageing and brain-training exercises. This is now offered individually through NEWSTART health consultation.

Five steps

  1. Learn the basics of prevention in our introductory class
  2. Practise at home with a calculation workbook
  3. Track your baseline and any change with the Five Cog cognitive test
  4. Check in again over time to see how things have changed
  5. Enjoy a lunch and conversation with others in the programme
