Urology & Female Urology

We focus on the everyday concerns of nighttime urination, frequency, and leakage, seen by two specialists, one male and one female physician.

In support of the health and quality of life of this community, we aim to be a clinic people feel comfortable visiting, as a hospital of the neighbourhood. Most people eat three times a day but use the bathroom seven or eight times, so urinary health is a close, everyday matter, yet a sensitive one, and many people feel embarrassed to raise it or simply put up with it in silence. If a symptom is on your mind, we hope you will take that first step and talk to us. We know how hard it can be to put an embarrassing but important concern into words, and we take care to ask about it thoughtfully, aiming to be a urology clinic that is easy to visit.

What we treat

Frequent urination, nighttime urination, weak stream, a feeling of incomplete emptying, leakage, or urgency

Surgical treatment for enlarged prostate is available here (Aquablation), along with minimally invasive options (transurethral water vapour therapy, transurethral prostate lift), and botulinum toxin bladder injection.

Blood in the urine, or concern about prostate cancer

Diagnosis and treatment using CT/MRI, cystoscopy, and prostate needle biopsy.

Suspected urinary tract stones

Transurethral stone removal using ureteroscopy and laser.

Female urology

Our female urology clinic treats overactive bladder and stress urinary incontinence, among other conditions.

Overactive bladder

Please talk to us if you experience a sudden, hard-to-control urge to urinate, leakage before reaching a toilet, or a constant need to know where the nearest toilet is.

Treatment: behavioural therapy

Lifestyle guidance (moderating fluid and caffeine intake, going to the toilet early, keeping track of toilet locations), bladder training (practising delaying urination for patients with frequency or urgency), and pelvic floor exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.

We also offer medication, and surgical options including botulinum toxin bladder injection and neuromodulation therapy.

Stress urinary incontinence

Please talk to us if you leak urine when you cough or sneeze, or when running, laughing, or otherwise putting pressure on your abdomen. This condition can result from a weakened pelvic floor, which can happen with pregnancy and childbirth, weight, menopause, or age.

Treatment

Pelvic floor exercises (deliberately tightening and releasing the vagina and anus) aim to improve stress incontinence by strengthening the pelvic floor. A minimally invasive sling procedure, inserting a supportive TOT tape beneath the urethra, is also available.
